You could cut the irony with a knife its so thick.
The date: October 6th. And here’s the headline from, yes, Fox, about Rachel Maddow’s show the day before, October 5th.
On busy news day, MSNBC’s Maddow harps on Trump dossier
“The first two paragraphs reported the story this way: Thursday was a jam-packed news day that included explosive allegations against one of Hollywood’s most powerful men and the National Rifle Association speaking out against bump stocks on the heels of the deadliest mass shooting in American history. But MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” opened with a 20-minute segment on the stale story about the alleged Trump dossier and his alleged connections to Russia.
Maddow seemed excited to exclusively report that an associate of Trump dossier author Christopher Steele said he is willing to meet with the Senate Intelligence Committee. The first 20 minutes featured Maddow discussing the dossier, which the MSNBC host claims is a “well-developed conspiracy” between the Trump campaign and Russian leadership. She went through the history of the dossier, admitting a lot of it has not been proven to be accurate before adding, ‘At least not yet.’”
Well, well, well. What a difference a few days makes. Not to mention a few months. Back in April of 2017 Rachel was so excited about the dodgy dossier she went her show and said this:
“The reason this is such a big deal is that, again, nothing in the dossier has been overtly disproved. And if it really is a roadmap to the investigation, well, that’s a very serious roadmap to somewhere for the Trump White House. Because the two main claims in the dossier are that Russia was cultivating Trump for years, including them collecting information on him for years that could potentially oblige him to do Russia’s bidding, and the other part of it is that it alleges overt, knowing collusion between Trump and Russia and Russia’s effort to interfere in the presidential election in order to hurt Hillary Clinton. That’s what the dossier says. And if the dossier is about to be publicly defended and explained and backed up, that’s conceivably the whole ballgame.”
And now? Yet another conspiracy theory of the kind Rachel favors (which is to say any conspiracy theory) has blown up in her face. The “roadmap to the investigation” has just been re-routed – to the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, which paid for the dossier. The Wall Street Journal editorial board put this reversal succinctly, this way.
“The Washington Post revealed Tuesday that the Hillary Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee jointly paid for that infamous “dossier” full of Russian disinformation against Donald Trump. They filtered the payments through a U.S. law firm (Perkins Coie), which hired the opposition-research hit men at Fusion GPS. Fusion in turn tapped a former British spook, Christopher Steele, to compile the allegations, which are based largely on anonymous, Kremlin-connected sources.
Strip out the middlemen, and it appears that Democrats paid for Russians to compile wild allegations about a U.S. presidential candidate. Did someone say “collusion”?
This news is all the more explosive because the DNC and Clinton campaign hid their role, even amid the media furor after BuzzFeed published the Steele dossier in January. Reporters are now saying that Clinton campaign officials lied to them about their role in the dossier. Current DNC Chair Tom Perez and former Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz deny knowing about the dossier arrangement, but someone must have known.”
Let’s say that key line again: “Strip out the middlemen, and it appears that Democrats paid for Russians to compile wild allegations about a U.S. presidential candidate. Did someone say “collusion”?”
Faster than you can say Russia, Russia, Russia the tables have abruptly been turned in this escapade, as one suspected all along might happen. There is no proof – none – that Donald Trump colluded with Russians to win the election. There is no proof – none – that Russians changed/altered or manipulated a single vote anywhere in America on behalf of the Trump campaign.
But there is now 100% hard proof that the Clinton campaign and the DNC colluded with the Russians to smear Donald Trump and interfere in the election.
There aren’t enough towels to wipe the egg off of Rachel’s face – and a lot of other faces for that matter.
